Studio Flat for Two in central Paris on Left Bank in
rue St Dominique, 75007, Paris
It is a privately owned ground-floor studio,
flat, apartment or bed-sitter in a
courtyard
set back from the street on the Left Bank in the 7th Arrondissment,
between rue
Surcouf and rue Jean Nicot,
so
it is central and convenient for the
sights of Paris,
many within scenic and easy walking distances.
Métros,
RER Stations and airport bus stop.
From the studio,
"Latour Maubourg" Métro
is about five
minutes walk East and
South along the Boulevard de Latour Maubourg. The station entrance is just outside
the
North-West corner of the moat of Hôtel
des Invalides.
"Invalides" Métro is
seven minutes North East across the grass of Esplanade des Invalides.
One station entrance is at the junction of rue de l'Université
and the eastern boundary
of the Esplanade.
Another is in the Aérogare
des Invalides which is 100m to the North.
Both entrances lead to the
Métro as well as the
RER station for expeditions outside Paris. In the Aérogare
building is an office for the Orly airport bus tickets and enquiries.
The
pickup point for the Orly airport bus is a glass shelter just outside.
Bus route
No 69 passes the door, going East only.
The studio flat
is a bed/sitting/dining room
with separate rooms for kitchenette, bathroom and loo,
in 22 square metres.
It looks South into a courtyard and
North into an inner 'courette'.
The entrance, sheltered in a passage at the back of the courtyard,
has a heavy front door
with two double-locking locks.
Inside there is a cupboard
with electric switches and fuses
which unfortunately makes the doorway almost impossible for
those in wheel chairs.
On the left of the front door is
the separate lavatory.
The sitting room has a glazed door, an oak beam and pillar
in a high-ceilinged L-shaped room
with walls
painted white,
furnished with a large double click-clack sofa bed which can
quickly
be
turned into a sofa when required but most of the time it is left down as a
bed;
very large hanging
wardrobe, containing an ironing board, with shelves to the
ceiling;
an
antique chest
of drawers and gatelegged table,
a country Chippendale chair, four stools,
plenty of table lights
and a radio tape recorder with some tapes.
The room has terracotta tiles throughout and a sheepskin rug.
There are two tall windows
on to the two courtyards,
double glazing on the front window,
both covered by shutters
for when you are out.
There are plenty of towels and linen, all changed before your arrival.
China, glass, tableware, saucepans, bowls and casseroles
are all provided
for
easy self-catering.
The kitchenette has a glazed door, a sink, fridge,
two electric rings with an extraction fan above,
a
combination oven (microwave/convection/grill),
an electric kettle, toaster and adequate cupboards.
Overhead is a large hot water tank, which you should switch on on your arrival.
It will provide plenty of hot water for the kitchen and bathroom.
The Bathroom,
with door, has a deep hip-bath,
the edge of which is 29" or 74cm high, with hand-held shower.
A movable 'step-up' to the bath is provided for 'les anciens'.
There is a basin with a
mirror and nearby shaver socket and
a very hot heated
towel rail.
Over the bath is a pull-out clothes line.
A telephone with an answer machine is provided. Its use is free.
It receives
all incoming calls
but only allows local outgoing calls. For your relatives and friends, its number will be included in the final
instructions before you go.
For long distance outgoing calls, there are two telephone boxes at the
junction of
Boulevard
De Latour Maubourg with rue St Dominique.
Phone cards are available from le tabac on the corner
of the same junction, diametrically opposite
the restaurant, 'La Recruitment'.
Electricity. When you arrive, even before turning on the kettle,
check the electricity meter reading
which is in a meter box
immediately outside the front door and note down the reading.
The towel rail is left on to air the studio when empty
and the wall convector
heater should have
been set to #2
in case temperatures falls in winter.
Do not pay for electricity used before your arrival,
so record the reading
when you arrive - and again
when
you leave.
Leave cash on departure for units used at 0.12€
per unit of electricity.
For heating, there is an electric convector wall heater
under the North
window, which is controlled
with a slider
and a slimline 385 watt convector
heater beside the dining table
for background warmth.
There is also a small,
black blower heater for immediate warmth
or
as a fan when hot in summer !
The neighbourhood is busy but safe because of the many nearby Embassies
and Ministries.
The streets are lively with excellent inexpensive restaurants, a variety of
shops, including four
bakers,
two supermarkets, a greengrocer and the famous,
mouth-watering,
food market of rue Cler
within a few minutes' walk.
Most shops stay open until 7 pm and some, including the market,
are open on Sunday mornings.
The area is looking even smarter every year with more
and more
fashionable shops
and
restaurants, the newer being several Asiatic restaurants.
Just a few
doors West is the 'Asie Seven' where a substantial meal from a wide range of
Asiatic dishes was only €4.70. It is also the most convenient take-away !
Car parking is fraught or expensive except in August when it is unrestricted.
There are two enormous, underground car parks. The one under
Esplanade des
Invalides to the East
has a filling station on exit into rue Faber and its
entrance
on
the far side in rue de Constantine,
ie, the far side of the grass
of the
Esplanade.
The newer car park, Latour Maubourg, has its
entrance in the parallel side road
of Quai d'Orsay
and down underground á la
Alice in Wonderland just before
Boulevard
de la Tour Maubourg.
Walk the route beforehand with a good map
or a keen
eye on one way street systems !
Cost for long stay was about €1/hour.
Keys and Security Code.
When you have paid the full rent,
ie, normally six weeks before arrival,
you will
be sent the final instructions
re the studio and how to collect the studio keys,
which is very easy
when you know how.
Therefore, if you are touring
before arriving in Paris,
it is essential that we know a reliable address
to
which we will send the keys and final instructions.
With adequate warning, keys can be sent earlier to
arrive before you leave home.
After dark, ie, no precise
time, the digi code allowing access
through the street door is switched
to the
code instead of just
pressing the central button.
This code is included
in our final instructions.
Have it with you or you will not be able to get in on arrival!
The set of studio keys has one
for the digi code lock at the street door in case you forget the code.
The rent for two people from Saturday to Saturday is £300 (pounds) or
€440 (Euros) per week
throughout the year.
Unfortunately other currencies incur bank charges which we
have to pass on to you.
The price for longer lets is negotiable by the month.
Except in unusual circumstances, the studio is not let for weekends
nor parts of a week.
If you want it for only a few days, rent
it
for the whole week and you are free to move in and
out whenever you want within your week or
weeks. Costs are still comparable with local hotels.
"Changeover Times".
To enable maintenance, uninterrupted cleaning and changing of linen on
Saturdays,
outgoing tenants are required to leave by noon
and
incoming tenants are asked not to arrive before 2 pm.
Cleaning. All tenants are requested to leave the studio clean and tidy
for the next occupants
and to replace anything lost or broken.
If replacements
are not
possible, please let la femme de
ménage
know by telephone in time for her to do something about it. She will come in from noon until 2 pm
on Saturdays
to wash the linen and
ensure that everything is ready for the next tenants.
Availability of the studio is on page 6 of this site and is updated
whenever a booking is confirmed.
